Sports Tips – Choosing Hockey Sticks For Your Game

Hockey equipment is required for all players who step onto the ice but some differences exist regarding the hockey equipment utilized by different leagues. Generally consisting of skates, hockey pants, gloves, shin pads, sticks, and helmets are players' hockey equipment. Apart from your body protection, the hockey stick tends to be the most important.

It is essential that you choose hockey sticks that will suit you best. You could end up getting injured or even end up playing up badly if you choose the wrong sticks. When choosing the right hockey sticks, how do you work out which ones are right for you? Below are some helpful tips to consider.

First of all, when standing in your skates, your stick should reach your chin. A longer stick would give defense players more reach when they're defending which is why this is their preferred stick. Buying the sticks a little long and having the shop cut them down is what you can do. This is far better than having a stick that is too long or too short. In order to give them optimum comfort, most people tend to find out that they have to have their stick customized.

To figure out the length that you're going to need, look closely at the bottom of your stick at the wear of the tape. You should probably consider a longer stick if you notice the tape is worn down near the toe. On the other hand, you should probably consider a shorter stick if the tape is worn near the heel. Ultimately, until you find one that's got a comfortable weight and feel for you, then you should try sticks at different lengths.

You should also consider weight and blade size when you are choosing hockey sticks. Wrapping both the stick handle and the blade with a layer of tape is what most players would recommend. This will make sure that the puck does not slide off of the blade as easy as normal and you will also have a tighter grip on the handle. If you are new to the game and have yet to tape your stick then we recommend that you do this early on. As outlined above, it will help you measure your game.

Affecting the way that you stick handle and shoot the puck are the different curves. Again, it's a good idea to try different curves until you find one that feels comfortable when you are starting off and are new to the game. Like with all sports equipment, the best idea is try out a few different hockey sticks so that you find one that conforms to your style.
