The Chicago Bears – A Hopeful 2010 Season

The Chicago Bears are one of the most beloved teams across the NFL, and one of the oldest as well. They have been playing professional football since before 1920, and have been playing their all time rivals -- the Green Bay Packers -- since only a couple years after their original start. Over this time, the Packers and Bears have played more than 170 games; fans can look forward to this battle every season. The Bears have always played well as a team, regardless of team members, even back when they were first formed. In fact, the team didn't experience big losses until nearly the 1930s. The Bears colors, that you know today, have been part of who they are since only three years after they started playing in 1922.

Chicago sports fans are very loyal and passionate about their teams, and all know who Wrigley field belongs to -- the Chicago Cubs. Ironically, the Bears needed a field to play on, back in the day, and that is where they scrimmaged. They soon thereafter had a field to call their own --Soldier field. Over the years the stadium began to fall apart, and was remodeled and ready to play in by the 2003 season. The stadium need such help, in fact, that only the street wall remains from the original, and the name was even changed to Soldier Field II.

The Chicago Bears have always made record sales for home games, and even games on the road. Ticket sales, for the Chicago bears, are well within the top 20 highest sales across the entire league. In fact, they are within the top 10 most profitable teams in the NFL, and its history, with a cash flow of 1.1 billion dollars. The combination of their solid history, the 2009 roster changes, and summer training, the 2009 season was just as eventful as every other season the Bears have given their fans. Jay Cutler, a Pro Bowl quarterback from the Broncos, joined the Bears in the spring of 2009, which added some great talent to their offensive line.

The team has retired many numbers / jerseys over the years, many of which belonged to phenomenal players and even some original team members from the beginning of their career. Bill George, George McAffee, George Halas, Sid Luckman, Harold Grange, Walter Payton, and many others join the ranks of retired Chicago Bears numbers. The team -- staff and players -- have proven them to be one of the greatest professional football teams of all time, and will continue to fight for this recognition. There is no doubt that the Chicago Bears will continue to provide fans and sports enthusiasts with amazing entertainment for years to come.

There is nothing quite like being at a football game and hearing the players throw each other around the field. The sweat, grunting, play calls, and yelling are enough to get anyone excited about the game. Many say you don't really experience football until you see the Chicago Bears play, especially live. This will be another astonishing year for the team. Don't miss you chance to see them play, live, at Soldier Field II.

Chiefs’ Cassel May Not Be Ready For NFL Opening Game

The good news for the Kansas City Chiefs as they prepare for the start of the NFL regular season is that their starting quarterback is back at practice. The bad news is that they still don't know when hell be able to play. Matt Cassel returned to the Chiefs practice field on Monday for the first time since he injured his left knee in a NFL preseason game on August 29th. Still, there's been no confirmation from either he or the team as to when hell return to action.

Cassel, who saw his stock shoot up precipitously as an NFL QB following his solid play in New England after starter Tom Brady went down to a season ending injury, signed a six year, $28 million contract with the Chiefs in the off season. Although Cassel was in full uniform at Mondays practice, head coach Todd Haley was noncommittal about whether he or Brodie Croyle would start Sundays NFL regular season opener on the road against the Baltimore Ravens:

"I think that as the week goes on, we'll know a little bit more. We'll know a little bit more with Matt for sure. But it was good that he was out there. He was able to get through some things. As the week goes on a little further, we'll know a little more as far as where he's at."

"It's good this is a long week. That will help with anybody who's nicked up. I would say generally you would need to have a full practice to have a chance to play. Generally, you need to have a full Friday practice to have a chance."

With or without Cassel, the Chiefs offense sputtered in the preseason scoring only two touchdowns. The lack of productivity cost offensive coordinator Chan Gailey his job and Kansas City stumbled to a 0-4 record in their NFL exhibition contests. Haley has taken over the offensive play calling for the time being, though it made no difference in the Chiefs final preseason game. Neither Croyle nor third stringer Tyler Thigpen was particularly sharp in preseason play, though Croyle got the most work and should get the nod on Sunday if Cassell is unable to play. To be fair, neither QB got much work with the Chiefs' first team offense in the preseason either.

The Chiefs face a tough assignment as they get the 2009 NFL regular season underway, pitted against the defensive tenacity of the Baltimore Ravens on the road. The Chiefs will host the Oakland Raiders in week 2 of the NFL season before traveling to Philadelphia on September 27 for a game against the Eagles.

The Most Accomplished QBs In Football Meet In This Year\’s Super Bowl

Every generation of football sees the emergence and prevalence of a few elite quarterbacks. In the 80s and 90s, we saw the likes of Montana, Elway, Marino, and Aikman dominating the sport. Currently, quarterbacks like Manning, Favre, Brady, and Brees are clearly the best in the game.

It should be fitting that the two of them will square off during the final game of the year. Both of them had what many believed to be career years, and more importantly, both of these teams were seen as the best in their respective conferences to start things off.

These have both been great teams throughout the year. In fact, they were the last two teams to lose a regular season game and many were predicting undefeated years for both of them after they remained undefeated well into December.

Neither the Colts nor the Saints finished out the season without a loss. In fact, each team lost two games, each for their own reasons. Still, this was enough to secure home field advantage, which clearly helped to secure a Super Bowl berth for each team.

When Indianapolis and New Orleans meet up with one another, fans will all agree about the fact that the winner will probably come down to the team with the more effective quarterback.

Experts usually look at the defensive units when it comes to the Super Bowl. They say that defense wins championships, but neither of these quarterbacks seem to be hindered by an effective defense.

This year, it looks like offense is the name of the game. While each team has an efficient defense that is largely responsible for the team\'s success, it really comes to down to each quarterback\'s poise, precision, and hunger on the field.

What happens from here is anyone\'s guess, but one thing remains true no matter what. The world will have the opportunity to enjoy to of the best quarterbacks in the world, both of them in their primes.

Football Flashback: Favre Shines As Vikings Rip Cowboys

When legendary quarterback Brett Favre announced his return to the NFL from what has become a seemingly annual flirtation with retirement, many second guessed the Minnesota Vikings\' decision to sign \"The Gunslinger\". On Sunday, Favre and the Vikings answered those critics in the best way possible-with a lopsided 34-3 beatdown of the Dallas Cowboys. Favre threw 4 touchdown passes in the victory and the Vikings\' defense sacked Dallas QB Tony Romo six times in the blowout. Minnesota will now face the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game.

NFL football betting fans also cashed tickets on the Vikings as -3 point home favorites. This was the shortest pointspread of the divisional playoff weekend and many thought that Dallas\' momentum would carry them to victory. The 37 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 45. Minnesota had gone UNDER in four of six games to conclude the regular season.

After the contest, Favre boasted that a playoff run was a large part of his motivation to return to NFL action:

\"\"This is what I came back for. Probably the most fatigued I got today was celebrating. I feel like I\'m playing the same way. I have the same enthusiasm. As long as I\'m out there, the enthusiasm and the passion that you see is real. And I know the guys feed off of that. Fans enjoy that, because it is real and genuine. Today was like this season: It\'s been wonderful.\"

Former South Carolina Gamecock Sidney Rice caught three of Favre\'s touchdown passes:

\"Same ol\' Brett. He\'s doing thing he\'s done since he first came in the league: moving around, getting the ball out, breaking tackles and even running down the field and throwing blocks. That just shows you how big of a heart he has.\"

Head coach Brad Childress mixed up a bunch of metaphors as he took a swipe at the prognosticators who picked Dallas to win:

\"The Tasmanian devils were coming from Dallas that were about to bombard the state of Minnesota and run through us like Sherman through the South. All of us felt it quite palpably.\"

Cowboys\' QB didn\'t have much to say in defeat:

\"Any time you come in with the expectations and goals we set and don\'t accomplish them, No. 1, it\'s frustrating. Right now, it\'s just hard to think the season is over.\"

Cowboys\' head coach Wade Phillips had a similar take:

\"It\'s like the elevator falling from the top. It\'s tough when it\'s over. If you don\'t win it all, you have not reached your goal.\"

The Vikings will now head to New Orleans for Sunday\'s NFC Championship game against the Saints. Minnesota is a +3\' point road underdog with the total set at 52\'.

Atlanta Tops St. Louis In NFL Preseason Action

It may only be preseason in the NFL, but the Atlanta Falcons are making a statement that they\'ll be a factor in the NFC. The Falcons starters behind QB Matt Ryan were almost flawless, and left the reserves with a 14-0 lead before eventually beating the St. Louis Rams 20-13 at the Edward Jones Dome on Friday night. Both teams are now 1-1 in NFL preseason action.

Running back Michael Turner was unstoppable in his limited playing time, churning out 65 yards in the Falcons opening drive. After the game, he confirmed that the Falcons offense had placed a priority on flawless execution:

\"We wanted to come out and execute. They were preaching that all week and we wanted to show that on game day. We\'re way better than we were last year at this time.\"

Tony Gonzalez caught QB Matt Ryans TD pass and after the game praised the young team leader:

\"He\'s a great quarterback. It\'s obvious he\'s figuring things out. He has a great arm, talent, and knows how to play with poise.\"

It was a disappointing home debut for new Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo, who saw his team blown away from the opening whistle before a half empty stadium. Still, he tried to frame the loss as a learning experience:

\"Just like I said to the team, we\'d have liked to have started out a little better. You\'ve got to come out and take it to them.\"

Rams safety O.J. Atogwe sounded a similar tone:

\"This was a fabulous game for us. That\'s the reason you play the preseason. Going against a team like Atlanta, a top-caliber team, it allows us to reassess what we\'ve been doing.\"

Falcons coach Mike Smith was most excited about the improved play of his rushing defense:

\"We were much improved against the run. It\'s something we have to continue to get better at. We still had some missteps.\"

The Falcons will continue NFL preseason play next Friday night as they host the San Diego Chargers at the Georgia Dome. The Rams will play the Bengals at Cincinnati next Thursday night.

Vikings\’ Peterson Should Play Despite Minor Back Pain

Brett Favre may get all of the headlines for the Minnesota Vikings, but NFL insiders are well aware that running back Adrian Peterson is the key to the teams offensive success. Peterson\'s threat alone is enough to open up options for the passing game. Hes definitely more than a decoy, however--after winning the NFL rushing title last year hes already off to a great start with 272 yards and four touchdowns in only two games. His threat on the ground has been a large part for Favre\'s solid play with his new team.

There\'s been a good deal of concern this week in the Twin Cities media about Peterson\'s health. Specifically, there are questions about the severity of a back injury suffered last weekend. Peterson has been limited in his practice activities all week as a precaution, though both he and QB Favre as listed as probable on the NFLs official injury report. Peterson\'s back is the reason for his inclusion, while Favre is dealing with a minor finger sprain.

The NFLs leading rusher tried to downplay the significance of his injury in comments to reporters:

\"God willing, I will be out there playing. Not a big deal at all.\"

He turned into a standup comic when asked for details on the injury. Asked when the injury occurred, Peterson quipped:

\"It happened, like, a week back. But that\'s all behind me now.\"

Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell didnt sound too concerned, but he wasnt cracking jokes either:

\"I\'m comfortable with where he\'s at. I know he\'s been working hard to rehab. ... Right now, I think he\'s going to be OK, but we have to continue to go throughout the week with that.\"

Peterson ran for 92 yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions last weekend. His presence alone makes things much easier for the Vikings passing attack\"opposing teams often put 8 or 9 men along the line of scrimmage to try and stop him, giving QB Brett Favre a great opportunity to get the ball downfield to his receivers in single coverage.

The Vikings host the San Francisco 49ers come to town. The Vikings are a 6 point home favorite with the total set at 39. The line for the first half is Vikings -3, with a total of 20. Theyll remain at home the following week as the Green Bay Packers pay a visit for a game on Monday Night Football. A road game will follow, as the Vikings will head to St. Louis to face the lowly Rams on October 11th.
